Emanuel Tire Wins 41st Annual CABA Golf Scramble

Pasadena, MD (June 10, 2010)… The Emanuel Tire team of Ron Carr, Len Harris, Bobby Paschall and Mark Rannie posted a 13-under par round Thursday, June 10, 2010 on the difficult North/East course of Compass Point Golf Club in Pasadena, MD to win the 41st Annual CABA Golf Scramble.

On a day dominated by the “tire guys” over the auto parts, the tool/equipment and the auto service contestants, second place at 9-under par went to the foursome of Lee Scaggs (Michelin Tire Group/South Greenville, SC), Walt Buettner (TBC Corp/Lewes, DE), Pat Sweeney (East Coast Tire Kingdom/Havre De Grace, MD) and Dan Walters (Tire Village of Bel Air, MD).

The S&M Auto Supply team of Stan Stern, Mike Frieman, Bob Hillerson and Jeff Yingling placed third, also scoring a 9-under par 63. Stern’s Bladensburg, MD teams have won this tournament in the past but struggled on the links style North Course after opening on the East Course with an eagle. “We just didn’t put it all together like we needed to today”, remarked Stern.

A total of 84 golfers enjoyed the sunny and warm afternoon, sharing more than $1,000 in prizes and gifts including a gift to all participants from CABA of the CABA pop-up event chair. The hungry were treated to a lunch cookout followed at dinner by a steak buffet.

Although no golfer won the $10,000 hole-in-one prize, many other skills were rewarded including: Longest Drive to Mike Frieman of S&M Auto Supply/Bladensburg, MD; Straightest Drive to Len Harris of Emanuel Tire/Baltimore and the Putting Contest to Jeff Yingling of S&M Auto Supply/Bladensburg, MD. Also, 3 winners of the Closest-to-the-pin contests were John Crow of Navex/Laurel, MD; Dave Kavanah of American Tire Distributors/Baltimore; and Bill Green of Quality Automotive Warehouse/Baltimore.

Proceeds from the Annual CABA Golf Scramble/Dinner event help support CABA’s education programs which is highlighted each winter with CABA Education Days, a series of mostly-advanced technical seminars delivered by some of the most accomplished aftermarket service instructors in North America.
